CABLE ACCESS ADVISORY COMMISSION

Also Present:      Ron Beacom – MCTV Director, Melissa Barnard – Library Director, Sheri Tausk-Office Assistant

                             

 

I.       Call to Order/New Members:                                                                                                                                     

 Ron Beacom called meeting to order at 7p.m.

 New members are: Cathy Nelson Price, MCTV Access User and Ron Felzke, at-large

 

II.     Election of Officers

a.      Chair-Granstra nominated by Green and Nelson Price, approved by all

b.     Vice-Chair-Green nominated by Nelson Price and Felzke, approved by all

 

      III.    Minutes:  May 8, 2013 approved as submitted.    

 

      IV.    Public  Comments: 

 

               No public comment

 

      V.     Old Business:

 

a.        MCTV Fund  (Cable Communications Fund):

 

Revenue came in 3% above what was budgeted for fiscal year ending 6/30/13.

                        Felzke asked how much of a revenue split there was between AT&T and Charter.

                        AT&T makes up approximately 26% of franchise fee revenue.

              

 

b.        Friends of MCTV

 

                         Balance of $30,312 as of 7/31/13. Formed in 2006 with two main purposes:

                        1) to help raise money for field equipment to be used by MCTV volunteers

                        2) to help raise public awareness.

                        MCTV has plans later this year to purchase new field cameras at a cost of $25,000.

                        Friends will make contribution to the City for that purchase.

                         Next meeting is September 24, 2013 @ 5:30pm in library conference room near MCTV.                       

 

                

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

c.          AT & T’s U-Verse

 

                         Four encoders totaling $32,727 were installed and activated in mid-July.

                        Matt Richardson led the installation and IR communications. Ron Beacom explained distribution

                        and delivery systems with AT&T’s U-verse.  Ron also showed demonstrations on how to

                        locate MCTV on U-verse.

a.       CAAC Annual Report 2012-2013

Accepted as presented to forward to City Council

·        Friends of MCTV/Field Cameras

·        Summer Video Camp

·        Honors Night

       

 

 

b.        CAAC Goals for 2013-14

         Accepted as presented

·        Quarterly receive a report on the status of the Cable Communications Fund.

·        Quarterly receive a report on the activities of the Friends of MCTV.

·        Quarterly receive a report on status of video franchising laws and legislation.

·        Inform access users and the public about the challenges and opportunities facing MCTV.

·        Inform the public about the benefits of MCTV.

·        Participate in MCTV’s “Honors Night 2013”

 

c.        ACM Michigan

Ron Beacom toured public access facilities on Sept. 6, 2013 of: Lake Orion, Oxford, and Waterford. Ron presented information along with pictures regarding the facilities toured.

Cathy Nelson Price asked a question regarding promotion of MCTV. Beacom shared a promotional idea received from one of the facilities. He also stated that CAAC board members are welcome to attend ACM functions.

Bennigan’s will donate 20% of all sales to Friends of MCTV

Whiting Forest on Eastman

 

 

Melissa Barnard spoke of library renovations affecting MCTV. We will receive new paint, chairs, and        carpeting. Completion is expected by January 2014.
