MINUTES

 

Board Members Present:  Marty McGuire (Chair), Mike Hayes (Vice Chair), Jenny Anderson, Bo Brines, Dan Cline, Jon Lynch, Heidi McIvor, Zach Prior, Ranny Riecker, Mark Ruhle, Doug Thompson, Claudia Wallin

Board Members Absent:  none

Staff Present:  Stephanie Szostak, Selina Tisdale

 

The DDA Board minutes from the March 9, 2011 meeting were approved as submitted.  Riecker/Hayes

DDA Executive Director, Selina Tisdale, presented the quarterly financial report. Financial reports approved as submitted.  Reicker/Lynch

 

City Horticulturist, Stephanie Szostak, reported that the Jumping Jewels water feature on Ashman Street has been retrofitted into planter boxes. Presented an update on the spring planting season, which has been delayed this year due to the weather.  Summer plantings will go in the Tuesday following Memorial Day. 

 

DDA Boundary Expansion Update - City Assessor, Reid Duford, presented an overview of the potential expanded district.  The DDA Board held a discussion on the issue and the following recommendation from the executive committee was moved by Riecker and seconded by Cline:

 

RESOLVED that the Downtown Development Authority will pursue a public process to expand the DDA district boundaries to capture future property investment and not apply, at this time, the additional two mils levied in the current DDA district and;

FURTHER RESOLVED that a public hearing on the matter be scheduled for the June 8, 2011 DDA Board meeting and that personal communication from the DDA office with affected property owners be sought.

 

Motion passed unanimously.

 

Committee Reports

·         Executive Committee – Marty McGuire reported on the Strategic Planning Session in September. Discussed Bo Miller’s appointment to the Board.

·         Communications CommitteeClaudia Wallin reported on the new downtown brochure, banners in the downtown area as well as the new Music on Main and Midnight on Main events.

·         Economic Sustainability Mike Hayes reported on the outdoor seating at Journeys. 

·         MDBA BoardMDBA President, Patty Aspin, reported on events in the downtown district. Shared nominations for the MDBA Board of Directors and Downtown Business Person of the Year.
