Board Members Absent: Mike Hayes (Vice Chair), Dan Cline, Bo Miller

The DDA Board minutes from the August 10, 2011 meeting were approved as submitted.

What’s New Downtown

Sheree Schattenmann spoke regarding her new Downtown Midland store, Sheree’s Alchemy, specializing in fabrics for sewing, quilting, crafting and home decor projects. Sheree’s Alchemy also provides unique sewing classes. Learn more at shereesalchemy.com

 

Horticulturist Report

City Horticulturist Stephanie Szostak reported on the removal of summer plantings and the fall displays that will be installed next month. She also reported that a location has been identified for the previously-approved tool shed replacement and that this project will be constructed in the spring.  Szostak reported that the street-tree lighting project is under way and will be completed in October-November.

 

Tax Increment Financing and Development Plan Approval

DDA Executive Director Selina Tisdale presented an updated Tax Increment Financing and Development Plan for approval and updated the board on the next steps of the boundary expansion process.  Riecker moved, seconded by Anderson, that the expansion process and Tax Increment Financing and Development Plan be forwarded to City Council.  Unanimously approved.

 

Committee Reports

·         Executive Committee – McGuire reported the executive committee has been designing the strategic planning session the DDA will go through in November.  McGuire reported that he has been appointed to the County Courthouse Committee, representing the DDA.

·         Communications CommitteeCommunications/Creating Cool did not meet in August but reported that the Midnight on Main event is moving forward in seeking sponsorships and has launched the midnightonmain.org website. 

·         Economic Sustainability The Economic Sustainability Committee has been discussing downtown refuse collection issues and the access to recreation kayak/canoe launch.

·         MDBA BoardShudark reported on the upcoming events of Main Street Glow, Cruise n Car Show, Summer Sculpture Series Troll Auction, Chili n Salsa Taste-Off and Mannequin Night.
