MINUTES OF THE QUARTERLY MEETING OF

THE WEST MAIN STREET HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION

THAT TOOK PLACE ON WEDNESDAY JANUARY 28, 2004,

AT 7:30 P.M. IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS,

CITY HALL, MIDLAND, MICHIGAN

 

Roll Call.

Approval of the Minutes of the Quarterly Meeting of October 23, 2003

††††† The minutes of October 23, 2003, were approved as submitted.

††††† Chairman Swierzbin welcomed all those watching on MGTV and each member introduced themselves.

Public Comments

There were no public comments.

Old/New Business

a.      Historic District Status.The secretary reported that the City Council has not received the report on the district since the last HDC meeting.Until the City Council has an opportunity to discss the issue it is business as usual for the Commisison.

b.      Minor Class of Work Activity.Harold Filipiak excused himself from the Commssion as he is the contractor for the job that will be discussed.The secretary reviwed the minor class of work that was approved for the the Ginzburg residence at 116 Revere Street.Windows on the rear of the resident are being replaced with vinyl units.Photographs of the residence and the windows being replaced were shown.

c.      Commission Projects:

                                                              i.      National Preservation Week May 3-9, 2004.Sue MacKellar stated she has talked with Gary Skory at the Historical Society who is interested in assisting the Commission with Preservation Week.However, this time of year his time is limited.She talked with him about a photo exhibit at the County Museum.The Commission discussed other ways to promote the week.There was some discission about having banners or flags in the district.Sue and Terri Applegate will meet with the secretary to dicuss ideas.

                                                            ii.      Neighborhood Welcome Packets.Terri reviewed the information she has put together for welcome packets.She and Donna Gross are the Commissionís welcoming committee for new residents to the District.

                                                          iii.      Update Photo Inventory.The commission desires to have the photo inventory updated.Terri and the secretary will meet to review the inventory.Photos should be taken in the spring.Residents should be advised that the photos will be taken.

Annual Michigan Preservation Conference.Sue MacKellar and Terri Applegate expressed an interest in attending the Conference on April 22-24th.The secretary will check the budget for funds.

 

In other business, the Chair asked that the secretary inquire about the city membership in the State Historic Preservation Network.
