Old Business

a. Historic District Video status

Terri Applegate explained the status of the proposed Historic District video.  There will be three homes featured including:

            116 Auburn Street (the “Williams” house, built in 1934);

            505 W. Main Street (the “Kelly” house, built in 1884); and

            608 W. Main Street (the “McCann” house, built in 1904)

These houses show three different architectural styles and were built in three different time periods.  The music in the background will be “Time Goes By”.  They will insert some maps and vintage pictures.  Ernie will meet with MCTV and Don will help produce the video.

There is a need to design the structure of the video and proceed from there.  Don and Ernie will follow up and coordinate this.

New Business

a. New 2007 Meeting Dates - It was moved by Bedford and seconded by Osburn to approve the dates of the 2007 West Main Street Historic District Commission meetings as presented by city staff.  The motion passed unanimously.

b. Recap of Michigan Historical Society Conference – Dick Osburn reported on the Michigan Historical Society Conference.  There were approximately 300 people in attendance.  Many facets of this conference stressed the need to link up with other community groups and to establish a community marketing plan.  Public Act 169 is up for renewal.

c. Minor Certificate of Appropriateness – Staff approved one Certificate of Appropriateness for William Brenton, of 411 W. Main Street for the painting of the exterior of his house.  This was considered a minor class of work.

d. Historic District Signage – Tim Lichtenwald presented three signs he found on the internet.  Chairman Deibert outlined a proposed plan for determining signage for the West Main Street Historic District, as follows:

1)   Get in touch with the city to see what they can do sign size, color and lettering.

2)   Obtain buy-in from the people in the West Main Street Historic District.

Tim Lichtenwald will contact Daryl Poprave to set up a meeting with Daryl and someone from the city sign shop to see what can be done regarding the signage.  Sue and Terri will work on a logo for the sign, to include color, style of lettering and size.  Of the signs presented in the packets, everyone liked the top sign the best with some kind of logo in the center.  Several samples will be designed and presented to the Commission at their January meeting.

ADJOURNMENT

Hearing no further business, the Chairman adjourned the meeting at 7:47 p.m..

Respectfully submitted,

Cheri Standfest
