MIDLAND PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING OF MAY 13, 2003

Rob Donovan (newly appointed), Joint Session with Planning Commission
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairperson Bruce Peck.
The Commission joined the Midland Planning Commission in the City Council Chambers for a presentation by the Saginaw Bay Greenways Collaborative (see attached summary of slides used in presentation).
Motion by E. McGuire, Seconded by Robert to receive the minutes of the meeting of April 8, 2003. Motion carried.
Fourteen applications were received for the appointments to the Golf Players Committee. The applications covered all of the specified areas. The Commission discussed the appointments.
E. Gerstacker moved, E. McGuire seconded, to suspend the rules and appoint all applicants and Paul Robert as a representative of the Commission to the Golf Committee. Motion carried.
M. McGuire indicated that staff was completing work on the Request for Proposals for Consulting Services for the Parks Master Plan. It is hoped that the interviewing of firms can be done in conjunction with the June meeting of the Commission.
M. McGuire distributed copies of the Leisure Time Brochure that was recently distributed with the Midland Daily News. He also spoke of a new Passport to Parks publication that identified parks and amenities in the four quadrants of the City. This piece is being prepared in both printed form and for the City’s website. It is hoped that both will be available early this summer.
Lincoln asked about the Civic Arena Project. McGuire reported that Owner’s Rep. Tom Anistos and Architect Al Tuomaala are working on a report for City Council which is due to be presented in June 2003.
