REGULAR MEETING OF OCTOBER 4, 2005

MEMBERS ABSENT: Martin, Peck, Dauer

 

Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Vice Chairperson, John Rothhaar.

 

Minutes

 

Motion by Allen, seconded by Lengerman to receive the minutes of the meeting of September 6, 2005.  Motion carried 6 – 0.

 

Call to Audience

 

Rothhaar issued a call to the audience for items not on the agenda.  There was no response.

 

Consideration of Picnic Shelter Fees

 

McGuire presented statistics on the picnic reservation program in 2005 and recommended continuance of the current fees.

 

The Commission questioned staff regarding public feedback and specific instances of lower use such as Barstow Woods where the Community Center reserved daytime use each day in 2004 and used the shelter in 2005 without reservation.  The Commission also clarified that the charge was for reservation and that use without a reservation could occur with no charge.

 

Motion by Lengerman, second by Jurado to recommend to City Council that the picnic shelter reservation program and prices be continued for 2006.  Motion carried 6 – 0.

 

Project and Program Update

 

McGuire presented a program and project update highlighting the opening of the Civic Arena and the Dog Park.  He also noted that the Plymouth Pool project is in the beginning drawings stage with work to begin yet this fall.  He also spoke of the Haunted Forest Program which will be held in the City Forest on October 20 – 23.

 

Commissioners commented on these projects and had questions on other current departmental projects and programs.  Discussion centered on the Dog Park, hand washing stations in Porta Jon units and the Central Park tennis courts.

 

Division Update

 

In keeping with the Commission’s desire to learn more about the various divisions of the department, McGuire presented the attached information on the recreation division.

Discussion of golf cart vandalism at Currie Golf Course.
