Staff Report on Currie Golf Course Operations and the
Golf Course Fund
Assistant City Manager Jack Duso presented the report to the Commission.
Discussion and Questions:
Paula Jurado asked how rangers enforce different rates for the east and west course. Duso explained that would typically be done visually from the point of sale or by checking their receipt at the tee.
Sid Allen asked if the rangers and starters could be paid for their services in rounds of golf. Duso stated that was something that may be able to be considered. Allen also asked if staff looked into leasing the course to a group like American Golf. Duso explained that while some other courses have done that, it is no guarantee of success. In addition, the course has other benefactors that would have to agree to that kind of change.
Chuck Martin asked what kind of measures staff is looking at for controlling expenditures. He suggested looking at fixed expenditures such as horticulture supplies, fertilizer, etc. and buying in bulk to reduce costs.
Frank Altimore asked about passes that were sold up to December 31, 2007. If fees are increased, would those pass holders be charged. Duso stated that fees for passes sold up to December 31, 2007 would be honored.
Dave Dauer stated that while he thinks logo wear is a good idea, he believes it would be better to wait until the course is in better financial condition before that is pursued.
Motion by Martin, seconded by Dauer to accept the report. Motion passed 5-0.
