Past Meeting Minutes Approval
Motioned by Jurado, seconded by Altimore
to approve the revision #2 minutes from the March 3, 2009 meeting. Motion

- Eagle Scout Matthew Zawisza
presented a proposed project at the City Forest. The project will be done
in conjunction with the Michigan Mountain Bike Association and involves
the construction of a pump track and skills station area that will allow
mountain bikers to warm up and practice various skills before heading out
on the trails. Staff has reviewed this proposal and is supportive of the
- Murphy reviewed the
proposed recreation fee changes and a public hearing was held. There was
no public comment on the fees. Rothhaar recommended approving the fees as
proposed. Martin motioned and
Jurado seconded the motion to approve. Motion passed 5-0. The amended fee ordinances will be
presented to City Council on May 11 for consideration, and again on May 18
- The commission would like
additional information on elimination of the summer playground program at
the June meeting.
- Kenny Benson gave a
presentation on the financial status of the Civic Arena fund as background
information to support the proposed arena fee changes. Altimore asked how
the proposed rate compares with other area rinks. Benson explained that
staff benchmarked rates and the proposed rate is in line with area rinks.
Martin asked what cost containment measures are being considered and
Benson responded that staffing levels, energy use and evaluation of
equipment are some areas that are being examined. Benson reviewed the proposed
Civic Arena fee changes with the Commission.
Jurado asked for an update on the dog park. Murphy reported that there is significant
damage to approximately 1000 ft. of fencing, and a bid to repair the fence will
be sent out this week. Murphy explained
that repeated flooding events this spring have delayed the repair work as the
area has been too wet to access.
Motioned by Altimore, seconded by Martin
to adjourn. Motion passed 5-0. Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
