City Council
Central Park
During the November 7, 2006, General Election,
Midland voters cast their ballots on a proposal regarding the sale and
reuse of the portion of Central Park on which the old Midland Civic
Arena once stood. The proposal asked whether or not the City of Midland
could sell 4.6 acres of Central Park (the area occupied by the former
Civic Arena building, the former Central Pool area and the adjacent
parking lot) to the Villas of Central Park, LLC, for the purposes of
developing the former arena building into a senior housing facility.
The proposal failed, which meant the old
arena building was demolished, and the 4.6 acres on which it sat
will be returned to park land.
At City Council's January 8, 2007, meeting,
the low bidder, MacKenzie Environmental of Grand Ledge, Mich., was
authorized to demolish the old arena at a cost of approximately
$104,580.00.
