Citizens Academy - Your City Government... Up Close & Personal

Beginning in January 2010, the City of Midland will present the Fourth Annual Citizens Academy, a nine-week series of sessions designed to give participants a first-hand look and in-depth understanding of how city government functions in Midland.

Patterned after the City's successful Citizens Police Academy, the Citizens Academy is a free program that explains the municipal services provided by the City of Midland, how its governing process works, and how citizens can participate in that process. Through a series of nine two-hour sessions, residents learn about the responsibilities of City departments and the services they provide to the community. Through presentations and facility tours, participants gain a better understanding of the role Midland city government plays in the quality of life that Midlanders enjoy. Sessions are held at various municipal facilities throughout the city depending upon the topics being covered.

December 21, 2009:  The application process for the 2010 class is now closed. Those who applied will be contacted near Christmas 2009 as to whether or not they were selected to participate in this year's academy.

Participant Selection:  Sessions are geared toward smaller, more intimate settings with approximately 25 citizens who are selected at random. Preference is given to those living within Midland's city limits.

2010 Academy Dates:  The 2010 Citizens Academy will be held on nine consecutive Wednesday evenings from January 13 through March 10. Sessions will run from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
