A special meeting of the City Council was held on Monday, August 7, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall.† Mayor Johnson presided.
Thomas Adams, Bruce Johnson, Hollis McKeag, James Myers, Joseph Rokosz
Interim City Manager Jack Duso presented an overview for the process of hiring a new city manager.
John Popp, owner of MAP Mechanical on Austin Street, spoke in favor of Jon Lynch and encouraged Council to consider him for the city manager position.
Angela Hine, 5645 Bloomfield Court, did not feel a city manager search was necessary because Jon Lynch would serve well as Midlandís next city manager.
Elaine Rapanos, 1912 S. Saginaw Road, spoke of Jon Lynchís positive attributes that would make him a good city manager.
Connie Valliere, 751 Tackamarak Trail, Hope, Executive Officer of the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Midland, expressed appreciation for the opportunity the HBA had to meet with Steve Barnard of The PAR Group and spoke in support of Jon Lynch as Midlandís next city manager.
Dave Gray, 4410 E. Brooks Road, spoke in support of Jon Lynch as Midlandís next city manager.
Roger Mead, 2117 Terra Court and member of the Planning Commission, spoke in support of Jon Lynchís capabilities to handle the city managerís position for the City of Midland.
City manager candidate Jon Lynch made a presentation.
City Council interviewed Jon Lynch for the position of city manager and then held a discussion on his qualifications.† The following resolution was then offered by Councilman Adams and supported by Councilman McKeag:
RESOLVED, that the Mayor, Councilman Myers, and the City Attorney are hereby authorized and directed to negotiate an employment contract with Jon Lynch for the position of City Manager of the City of Midland; and
RESOLVED FURTHER, that upon the successful negotiation of said contract, the Interim City Manager is hereby directed to place this item on the next available City Council agenda.† (Motion ADOPTED.)
