A special meeting of the City Council was held on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall.  Mayor Johnson presided.

 

Councilmen present:

Thomas Adams, Maureen Donker, Bruce Johnson, Hollis McKeag, Joseph Rokosz

Councilmen absent:

None

 

GOAL SETTING RETREAT

Director of Fiscal Services David Keenan presented an overview of the City’s finances.

 

Leonardo Garcia, Fire Chief, updated Council on the pending community fire services analysis.

 

Brian McManus, City Engineer, provided a status report regarding efforts to improve traffic flow on Eastman Avenue.

 

Noel Bush, Director of Public Utilities, explained the background and findings of sanitary sewer capacity modeling.

 

Jack Duso, Assistant City Manager, reviewed a staff report regarding Currie Golf Course outlining financial conditions and recommendations for improvement thereof.

 

Sid Allen, President and CEO of Midland Area Chamber of Commerce, gave a presentation on the Project for Public Spaces group and the work they are pursuing in Midland. 

 

Keith Baker, Director of Planning and Community Development, reviewed with Council a development plan recently completed by the Downtown Development Authority.

 

Paula Whittington, Assistant City Manager for Human Resources, guided Council through changes to the municipal budget document that will be implemented in FY 2008-2009.

 

Jon Lynch, City Manager, reviewed progress toward 2007-2008 City Council Goals.

 

Council discussed the following three City Council goals:

1.    Ensure economic sustainability.

2.    Provide outstanding quality of life via excellent services and amenities.

3.    Provide effective stewardship of community resources.
