MIDLAND CITY COUNCIL
Regular meeting of the City Council was held Monday, August 24, 1998. Mayor Black presided with all Councilmen present.
Recognized Garrett Russell for his outstanding community service and congratulated him upon being named a first place recipient of the Governors Award for Community Service.
Received presentation of "City Council Garden" by Jim Stout.
Heard report on recycling in Midland County.
Held a public hearing and approved the special assessment roll for the "1998 Waldo Avenue Sanitary Sewer Improvement Special Assessment District".
Held a public hearing and approved the special assessment roll for the "1998 Waldo Avenue Water Main Improvement Special Assessment District".
Held first reading of an ordinance requiring the disconnection of downspouts, roofing drains, truck dock drains, parking lot drains, driveway drains and yard drains from the sanitary sewer system.
Approved extension of time for completion of improvements in Wintergreen Estates No. 12 until September 1, 1999.
Approved Site Plan No. 173 for Orchard View Commons.
Approved Site Plan No. 174 with conditions for Rite Aid Pharmacy.
Approved Site Plan No. 175 for the Arnold Center.
Approved joint project with Midland Public Schools for a residential house project at 3606 W. Wackerly Street.
Made the following Traffic Control Order permanent: S-98-05 - Trailridge Drive shall stop for Dublin Avenue.
Authorized City Manager to vote for six of the persons listed on the Michigan Municipal Workers Compensation Fund ballot.
Authorized execution of an agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation for Federal Transit Administration Section 3 capital for DART.
Authorized execution of an agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation for bus rehabilitation.
Approved purchase of various items of equipment from various vendors for use in MCTVs replay room, edit rooms, and production trailer at a total cost of $26,417.
Approved purchase of Water Meters from Etna Supply Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan, at a cost not to exceed $95,000.
Approved purchase of a Lime Slaker System from Penn Process Technologies, Inc. of Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania, in the amount of $60,650.
Approved the application of the Celebrate Midland Community Appreciation Day Committee to conduct a fireworks display on September 7, 1998.
Approved application of the Midland Redcoats to conduct a fireworks display on August 26, 1998.
Approved a request of the Celebrate Midland Community Appreciation Day Committee to use the first level of the Larkin Parking Ramp on September 7, 1998.
Approved a request of the Celebrate Midland Community Appreciation Day Committee to land skydivers and to have tethered hot air balloons rides on September 7, 1998, during the Community Appreciation Day event.
