A regular meeting of the City Council was held on Monday, August 27, 2001. Mayor Black presided with all Council members present.
Proclaimed September 15, 2001 as Young Astronaut Day in Midland.
Received Safety Program Midyear Progress Report.
Recognized Jan Yuergens as the recipient of the fifth annual City Manager’s Safety Leadership Award.
Held second reading and adopted an ordinance amending Section 17-3 – Term of office.
Held first reading of an ordinance amending Section 17-3 to establish term limits of the members of the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Appointed two new members to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Approved Site Plan No. 207 for an addition to Wolverine Bank, 5710 Eastman Avenue. (Yeas: Black, Coppage, Currie, McKeag Nays: Wazbinski)
Denied extension of time for completion of sidewalk in Scenic Estates Subdivision No. 3. (Yeas: McKeag Nays: Black, Coppage, Currie, Wazbinski)
Approved extension of time for completion of sidewalk in Sterling Park Estates No. 9.
Approved extension of time for completion of sidewalk in Sterling Park Estates No. 10.
Made the following Traffic Control Orders permanent:
S-01-01 Springbrook Court stops for Plymouth Street
S-01-02 Chapel Lane Circle yield to Wildflower Lane
P-01-06 Parking prohibited on the south side of Gabriel Lane between Jeffery Lane to Drake Street from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during school days only
P-01-07 Parking prohibited on both sides of Sugnet Road at the Swede Avenue intersection to extend 100 feet in each direction
P-01-08 Parking prohibited on the east side of Drake Street from Woodcrest School to Dilloway Drive from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during school days only
Authorized the sale of surplus city equipment at the annual auction.
Confirmed the City of Midland will pay special assessments for all property within the city limits within the Ashby Consolidated Drain Drainage District.
Authorized filing of revised State Revolving Fund Bond Application for sale of 2001 Storm Water Retention Basin Bonds.
Accepted two Patrick Force Main Sewer Easement Agreements from The Dow Chemical Company.
Authorized execution of contract with Pat’s Gradall Services, Inc. of Midland, Michigan, for the “2001 Major Street Improvements; Contract No. 7”, in the amount of $147,084.50.
Authorized execution of Change Order No. 4 to the “2001 Saginaw Road Force Main; Contract No. 18”, in the amount of a net contract increase of $229,539.80.
Accepted Easement Grant Agreement for sanitary sewer and water main for Forestridge Condominiums.
Authorized issuance of purchase order to Three Rivers Construction of Midland, Michigan, for the Boiler Replacement at Washington Woods in the amount of $44,615.
Authorized execution of MDOT Contract No. 2001-0549 for the purchase of a new Dial-A-Ride bus at a total cost of $57,725.
Authorized issuance of purchase order to Spartan Distributors Inc. of Sparta, Michigan, for the purchase of Golf Course Equipment in the amount of $85,413.20.
Authorized issuance of purchase order up to the amount of $33,012.26 to Green Growth Supply of Bryon Center, Michigan and $46,528.42 to Turfgrass, Inc. of South Lyon, Michigan for chemicals, fertilizer and grass seed for the Currie Municipal Golf Course.
Authorized issuance of purchase order up to the amount of $35,000 to Magazine Subscription Service Agency, Inc. for periodical subscriptions for the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library.
Authorized purchase of electronic on-line services and books from The Gale Group of Farmington Hills, Michigan, in an amount not to exceed $50,000.
Approved award of occupational health nurse services to the MidMichigan Urgent Care Center–Midland in an amount not to exceed $24,752.
Authorized execution of agreement for housing and related expenses in connection with the MCV Tax Appeal in an amount not to exceed $75,000. (Yeas: Coppage, Currie, McKeag, Wazbinski Nays: None Abstained: Black)
