Absentee Voting
Absent voter ballots are available for all elections and provide voters with
a convenient method for casting a ballot when they are unable to attend the
polls on Election Day.
You may obtain an absent voter ballot if you meet at least one of the criteria
below and are registered to vote in Midland:

age 60 years old or older;
-
physically unable to attend the polls without
the assistance of another;
-
expecting to be out of town the entire time
polls are open on election day;
-
in jail awaiting arraignment or trial;
-
unable to attend the polls due to religious
reasons; or
-
appointed to work as an election inspector in a
precinct other than the precinct in which you reside.
How to Obtain an Absentee Ballot
The absentee voting process begins with a call (989-837-3310) or visit to the Midland City
Clerk’s Office (333 W. Ellsworth St., Midland, MI) to request an application for an absent
voter’s ballot. Requests to have an application mailed to you must be made by
2 p.m. on the Saturday BEFORE the election takes place. After that date, the
City Clerk's Office cannot mail out absentee voting applications.
Once the application has been completely filled out and returned to the City
Clerk’s Office, your request for an absentee ballot will be processed
immediately.
Absentee voter ballots may be sent to you at your home
address or any address outside of the city of Midland. If you wish to have your
ballot sent to a location other than your registered voting address, be sure to
complete the address information section in the center of the application form;
otherwise, the ballot will be sent to your registered address.
Filling Out and Signing Your Absentee Ballot
Once you have received your absentee ballot, it must be completely filled out
and signed before it is returned to the City Clerk's Office.
PLEASE NOTE:

Absentee ballots will not be counted unless your signature is on the return
envelope. If you received assistance voting the ballot, then the signature of the person
who helped you must also be on the return envelope.

If returning your ballot by mail,
please affix a 59-cent stamp to the return
envelope to ensure prompt delivery.
Returning Absentee Ballots
Only you, a family member or
person residing in your household, a mail carrier or an election official is
authorized to deliver your signed absent voter ballot to your Clerk’s Office.
You may NOT deliver voted absentee ballots for friends, neighbors or
coworkers.
Do not return an absentee ballot to your polling location on Election Day.
Absentee ballots being returned on Election Day must be returned to the
Midland City Clerk’s Office.
If you choose to return your absentee ballot by mail,
please affix a 59-cent stamp to the return envelope to
ensure prompt delivery.
Emergency Absent Voter Ballot
If an emergency - such as a sudden illness or family death - prevents you
from reaching the polls on Election Day, you may request an emergency absent
voter ballot. Requests for an emergency ballot must be submitted after the
deadline for regular absent voter ballots has passed but before 4 p.m. on
Election Day. The emergency must have occurred at a time which made it
impossible for you to apply for a regular absent voter ballot.
