2008 Appreciation of Beautification Awards
LOOK! APPRECIATE! NOMINATE!
The City of
Midland
Beautification Advisory Committee,
a sub-committee of the Parks & Recreation Commission, encourages individual, business and
public efforts to make Midland a beautiful city. One way in which Midland citizens are encouraged to improve landscapes,
structures and sites in our community is through the Appreciation of
Beautification Awards program. The Beautification Advisory Committee depends on
Midland citizens to help find hidden treasures in our community, and welcomes public nominations.
One of the awards, the Bette R. Tollar Civic Commitment Award, recognizes
major beautification efforts that benefit the community.

special featured video by clicking here. (Windows Media Player 9 and a broadband connection to the Internet required to view video.)

NOMINATION FORM
Beautification Advisory Committee
The Beautification Advisory Committee is a
subcommittee of the Parks and Recreation Commission. The advisory committee is
made up of community volunteers and meets monthly on the third Monday of each
month.
In addition to the Appreciation of Beautification awards program, the
committee also sponsors the "Make Midland Beautiful Art Celebration". The
focus of the Art Celebration is to encourage creativity and uniqueness among
children by having them create a poster that reflects “What Makes Midland
Beautiful.” The program is open to Midland public and parochial school students
in the 2nd and 6th grades.
Hundreds of school children participate in the Art Celebration each spring.
Here's how it works: Two posters are selected by the art teacher and principal
from each 2nd or 6th grade classroom involved. The posters are submitted for
review to a team of judges who are selected by Midland Public Schools Art
Director Mark Francisco. After review, one poster is selected to represent each
school.
All of the posters submitted by area art teachers are displayed at the
Midland Mall for two weeks in May. In addition, the poster of each school's
student representative is featured on MGTV-5, and students receive special
recognition during a Midland City Council meeting.
