Beautification Advisory Committee
The Beautification Advisory Committee is appointed by
and reports to the Parks and Recreation Commission. They lead two main programs:
-
Appreciation of Beautification Awards; and
-
Make Midland Beautiful Art Celebration.
The "Appreciation of Beautification Awards"
program recognizes both business and residential properties for landscaping and
structural site improvements, which are readily visible to the public.
The Bette R. Tollar Civic Commitment Award recognizes major beautification
accomplishments that benefit the community as a whole.
Properties within the city are eligible for awards.
Each year, nominations are accepted until August 1, and
awardees are recognized at a November ceremony.
The "Make Midland Beautiful Art Celebration" takes place in the
spring and encourages creativity among children in the 2nd and 6th grade, by
creating a poster on "what makes Midland beautiful." This is a cooperative
program involving more than 1,000 Midland elementary school children. A single representative is selected
to represent each school and is honored
during a City of Midland Council Meeting in May.
