Dial-A-Ride Services

Dial-A-Ride Transportation (DART) provides demand-response public transportation for travel within Midland's city limits.

Demand-Response Service:  Call Dial-A-Ride (989-837-6940) at least 60 minutes before you need to be picked up, and plan on a 25-minute bus ride to your destination. Ride times may be longer during busier hours (weekdays 7-9 a.m. and 3-5 p.m.).

Time calls are booked on a first-call, first-served basis, and time slots do become filled. To increase chances of obtaining a ride at the preferred time, provide as much advance notice as possible.

Standing Order Service:  Make one call and schedule a Dial-A-Ride pickup at the same time each day or week.

Bay Metro Transfers/Pick-ups:  The transfer/pick-up location for connection with Bay Metro Transit is Midland Town Center (corner of Washington and E. Patrick roads in Midland). Read more or call 989-837-6940 for details.

Dial-A-Ride Emergencies:  Riders who have scheduled a bus ride outside of our phone service hours (prior to 8:30 a.m. Monday-Friday, after 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, or on Saturday after 1 p.m.) and are not picked up as expected may call our hotline number (989-837-6999) for emergency bus service. This service is available when Dial-A-Ride phone service is closed, the rider was taken to a destination by Dial-A-Ride, the rider missed their return pickup or Dial-A-Ride failed to pick them up, and Dial-A-Ride bus service is available.

How Dial-A-Ride Works

Persons wanting to use Dial-A-Ride will need to complete a Passenger Information Form (click on link below). If you have multiple family members who will be using our service, each individual must fill out and return a form.

Passenger Information Form*

Any person who is eligible for the reduced fare ($.75 or pink tickets) under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) needs to have a medical doctor or mental health professional complete the ADA verification section of the Passenger Information Form. New riders have 30 days to provide Dial-A-Ride with their ADA verification. If the verification is not received within 30 days, the passenger will be required to pay the full fare ($2.00 or yellow tickets) until ADA verification has been submitted.

Senior citizens (60 years or older) automatically qualify for the reduced fare and do not need to complete the ADA verification section on the Passenger Information Form.

When booking a ride, it is important to note that there is a 20-minute scheduled pickup window. Passengers should write down the times of their 20-minute pickup window. The bus can arrive anytime inside this 20-minute period. The bus will wait two minutes inside this window before continuing on to the next stop. A no-show fee will be charged to passengers that are not available for scheduled pickups, and the fee must be paid before service can resume.

Who Uses Dial-A-Ride?

  • Children traveling to school and other activities.

  • Persons with disabilities and those needing lift-equipped buses. Drivers are trained to handle manual wheelchairs. 

  • The City of Midland provides curb-to-curb transportation service within Midland's city limits. Drivers cannot go beyond the curb to provide assistance for passengers and cannot carry groceries or other carry-on items on or off the bus. If you need assistance beyond the curb or with carry-on items, you may qualify to travel with staff at no additional charge. Please contact Jan Yuergens at 989-837-6908 with questions.

  • Anyone needing reliable transportation to get to school, work, or shopping.

Dial-A-Ride provides service to the general public including persons with disabilities and elderly riders. When you schedule your ride, please inform the Dial-A-Ride Office if you need the assistance of a lift-equipped bus.

Cancel a Ride

To cancel a pickup, contact Dial-A-Ride at 989-837-6940 during Dial-A-Ride phone service hours.  Rides must be cancelled 60 minutes prior to the pickup time or the rider will be responsible for the fare.

All evening rides must be cancelled by 5 p.m. weekdays and 1 p.m. on Saturday or the passenger will be response for the fare.

Morning rides scheduled for pickup prior to 8:30 a.m. may call the hotline number (989-837-6999) to cancel their ride. Rides must be cancelled 60 minutes prior to the pickup time.

No-Show Policy

If you request a pickup and do not show for that pickup, you will be charged the fare on your next bus ride. You can cancel bus pickups by calling the Dial-A-Ride office at 989-837-6940 during dispatch office hours.
