Bloom Where You're Planted: Volunteer to Keep Midland Beautiful
Volunteers are needed to help keep Midland beautiful! With over
12,000 bulbs to plant in the fall, 86 hanging baskets
and 75 large pots in the downtown area, and
countless flower beds to
maintain throughout the city, there is
much for the City of Midland to do to keep flora and fauna looking beautiful and healthy.
That's why the City's Horticulturist Stephanie Szostak
is looking for Midlanders to volunteer 3-4 hours a month to help with planting,
pruning, weeding, and general maintenance of the many acres of
flowers and plants in the city. No expertise is required... just a willingness to get your hands in the dirt and help beautify the city.
Volunteer opportunities will be available during the months of February-November, weather permitting.

Volunteering allows you not only to commune with nature, but
also to learn helpful tips to take back to your own garden. For the first half hour of your monthly volunteer time, Stephanie Szostak and/or a member of her 11-person
seasonal crew will delve into
the following:
- proper pruning and planting techniques;
- care and maintenance of varying landscape plants; and
- how to divide grasses and perennials in your landscape.
The City will provide safety vests, gloves, and any necessary tools - such as hoes - to accomplish the work.
Fill out the form at left, or call Stephanie Szostak directly (989-837-6915) for more information.
