Your pooch can now perch on land specially designated for him or her, thanks to the creation in 2005 of Midland’s first and only dog park.

The park is located at the westerly end of Chippewassee Park near the Trilogy Skatepark. The nine-acre area was made possible by a generous gift of $40,000 from an anonymous donor and plans designed by a group of interested citizens and Parks and Recreation Department staff.

The dog park is fenced in, and has a combination of wooded and open areas where dogs can run free.

A water source (during the warm weather months) and various agility courses are provided to make your pet’s romps more enjoyable. A separate area in the dog park is earmarked for smaller dogs, and a gravel parking area has been added near the park for dog owners’ vehicles. Waste bags are provided for use at the park. Trails are compacted in the snow to allow easier walking for dog owners in the winter.

Please note that dog owners must be in control of their pets, and must clean up waste from their dogs.

The park is open from 8:00 a.m. until dusk.

The park is one element of the city's Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which was adopted in 2004.

Bark in the Park

Learn great tips on caring for your pet, meet other dog lovers, and let Fido romp at the park during Bark in the Park, held during the summer months.

In 2008, Midland Parks & Recreation and SOS Animal Rescue are again partnering to host Bark in the Park. The events will be held the second and fourth Wednesday’s in June, July and August as follows:

June 11 & 25, July 9 & 23, and August 13 & 27 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

The program may include brief educational presentations on pet related issues, door prizes and plenty of time for your dog to run and enjoy the park with other dogs.
