Community Policing

In July 1992, the Midland Police Department began a Community Policing Program that places police officers right in the heart of neighborhoods for specific areas of the city. By means of "walking a beat" and patrolling on bicycle, the officer becomes an integral part of the neighborhood and forms friendships and alliances with citizens living in that area. This officer becomes responsible for all police activities within that area.

The community policing officer also becomes involved with youth in the community by patrolling the schools located in a given area.

Community policing allows the officer to become more pro-active in handling crime and other illegal activities.
