What is Accepted at the Landfill

  • Yard waste

  • General household waste (other than what is listed below)

  • Construction and demolition debris

  • Dried Latex paint in the can (with the lid off)

  • Alkaline batteries, such as AA, AAA, C, D and 9V

  • Medical syringes, provided they are packaged in a solid, sealed container (such as an old coffee can) and labeled, then set out separately from the other refuse left at the curb

What is Not Accepted at the Landfill

Liquid or household hazardous waste:

  • In households:

    • Oil

    • Antifreeze

    • Pesticides

    • Oil-based paint

    • Lead-acid batteries

Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste Disposal

Household hazardous and electronic waste disposal days have been scheduled for 2011 at Midland's Sanitary Landfill:

  • Tuesday, April 19, 2011

  • Tuesday, June 14, 2011

  • Monday & Tuesday, August 15-16, 2011

  • Tuesday, October 18, 2011

On the dates listed above, citizens may dispose of household items that are considered hazardous, such as chemicals, oil-based paints and stains, pesticides, insecticides, household cleaning products, certain auto products, mercury, and medicines. Also these same dates, homeowners may dispose of electronic items such as cell phones, computers, computer screens, TVs, and other electronic devices that may contain mercury. Old thermometers and fluorescent light bulbs will also be accepted.

To take advantage of this free service, schedule an appointment with the Midland County Health Department (989-832-6681). Be prepared to indicate the type and amount of materials you wish to drop off. Only residents with appointments will be allowed to drop off materials.

Curbside Collection of Recyclables

Recycling is collected curbside once each month, Monday through Friday, for all city of Midland residents.  To find out your recyclables collection day, use our online interactive schedule.

Alternate Resources for Recycling

The Midland Recyclers center at the landfill entrance is a non-profit organization dedicated to recycling as many materials as possible.  Midland Recyclers will accept the following items at the recycling center:

  • Cardboard

  • Paper

  • Plastics

  • Glass

  • Metal

  • Other items
