MIDLAND RECOGNIZED FOR PROVIDING ENTREPRENEURIAL CLIMATE FOR BUSINESS (November 2, 2012) The city of Midland has been identified as one of eight top performing communities in Michigan at fostering entrepreneurial growth and economic development in a study by researchers at the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Center for Innovation Research (iLabs). Midland was recognized as a five-star community – the top rating possible. Click here to learn more about the recognition.

CITY BIKE-FRIENDLY (October 23, 2012) Midland was once again named a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. One of 241 communities nationwide to receive this designation, Midland was recognized for its many bike paths and efforts to make bicycling a viable mode of non-motorized transportation that also promotes fitness and fun. GREATER MIDLAND GREAT FOR KIDS (September 11, 2012) For the fifth year in a row, Greater Midland (comprised of all of Midland County) was once again recognized as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People in America. Midland received this distinction for its new and continuing programs to make Midland a great place for kids to live, grow, and thrive. Click here to learn more about this prestigious recognition.

WATER DEPARTMENT WINS STATE AWARD FOR SAFETY EXCELLENCE (May 2012)  Midland's Water Department was awarded the Michigan Section American Water Works Association award for outstanding safety programs and records, including a new, employee-designed initiative called "Take 5," which helps bring awareness to potential work dangers and challenges employees to approach tasks with safety in mind.

UNITED WAY NAMES CITY A "COMPANY THAT CARES" (April 2012)  United Way of Midland County recognized the City of Midland as one of 30 local “Companies That Care” for our commitment to strengthening Midland through United Way support.
