Get ready for the Battle of the Books!

Fourth and fifth graders are invited to take part in this very popular program. We'll announce our booklist which includes a variety of fun, interesting and notable books. After kickoff, students can form teams to share reading and related activities
. The deadline for team registration is 8:30 pm Monday January 25.

 

Deborah Wiles


 

Deborah Wiles, author of last year's Battle book, Love, Ruby Lavender, will help us kick-off the 2009-2010 Battle of the Books season. Come hear this National Book Award finalist speak. Following the program, Ms. Wiles will sign copies of her books which will be available for purchase.

Deborah Wiles is the author of two picture books: One Wide Sky (Harcourt) and Freedom Summer (Simon & Schuster), and three novels: Love, Ruby Lavender, Each Little Bird That Sings (a National Book Award Finalist), and The Aurora County All-Stars (all Harcourt). Next year, with Scholastic, she will publish Fallout, book one of "The Sixties Trilogy: Three novels of the 1960s for young readers." She taught "Writing Techniques for Teachers" at Towson University and has taught in the MFA in Writing programs at Lesley University and Vermont College. She has taught personal narrative writing for many years, to children and adults. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia.

Battle Books will be available for check-out after 3 pm Saturday, November 14. Attendees of the 10 am program will be able to check out Battle books immediately following that program.
