Steven Galloway’s novel captures the struggle of his characters to
maintain their most valuable possession during war time – their
humanity. Citing a historical event in which a musician risked his life
to perform at a site where 22 people lost their lives in the siege of
Sarajevo, Galloway explores the redemptive power of art to heal the
wounds of war. A timeless and hauntingly universal work, The Cellist
of Sarajevo reminds us that loss of life is not the only measure of
war. The loss of art, culture and community, although seldom
commemorated, is just as tragic. Books will be available for check out
beginning Monday, August 3.
