Grace A. Dow Memorial Library Internet Procedures |
Grace A. Dow Memorial Library provides access to the Internet on all "Windows" based PC's in the Library.
The public access Internet computers use Microsoft Explorer World Wide Web browsers. The library provides filtered computers in the Youth Services department and on the first floor. While this filtering will prevent access to many sites considered inappropriate for children, it is technically impossible to prevent access to all objectionable resources. The computers located in the alcove next to the Reference Desk are unfiltered. As required by law, children under 18 years of age may only use filtered computers unless a parent or a legal guardian accompanies them. We strongly encourage parents to monitor the use of the Internet by their children. Staff may request identification to use the unfiltered computers.
Access to the computers are free of charge.
The Librarians will assist you with instructional materials regarding the browsers and the Internet; will give you a brief orientation on your first visit; and will answer questions as they arise.
In order to use the Internet computers, you must have your Library Card. The Reference Desk will have a limited amount of guest cards for visitors not eligible for a library card. Regular borrower fines will not hinder your use of the Internet. Usage of all Internet computers anywhere in the library is limited to one hour per person per day. This hour may be used at one time or at increments throughout the day. Please note that this one-hour time limit is applied to users, not to computers.
Please remember that the library closes at 9pm weeknights and 5pm on weekends. You are expected to leave promptly at closing.
You may print your research on the attached printer. You may print up to 5 pages per day free of charge. The fee for printing additional pages is 10 cents per page. There is a box at the check-out desk to pay for your printouts. Please plan your time so that printing is complete by the end of your session.
You must adhere to the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library Acceptable Use Policy.|
