Park and Read Enjoy a Great Book in the Great Outdoors |
The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources
and Environment, and the Library of Michigan are again hosting Park and Read.
Library
Card holders can pick up a free one day Park and Read pass during their next
stop at the Check Out Desk. Each pass provides access to any one of Michigan's
state parks or recreation areas. The program runs from around Memorial Day through October 1. Passes are valid for seven days from check-out and can be redeemed for one resident daily motor vehicle permit. The Library has a limited number of passes available on a first-come basis. Established in 1919, Michigan's state parks system maintains 98 parks and
recreation areas covering 285,000 acres. There are 13,500 campsites in 142
campgrounds and 879 miles of trails.
