Baum, F.                THE WIZARD OF OZ.  After a tornado blows Dorothy into the land of Oz, she seeks help from Wizard to go back home.

 

Billingsley, F.          WELL WISHED.  Eleven-year-old Nuria tries to outwit the magical wishing well in her mysterious mountain village.

 

Bradshaw, G.         BEYOND THE NORTH WIND.  A talented young magician is sent by Apollo to stop an evil queen from exterminating a small tribe of griffins.

 

Carroll, L               ALICE IN WONDERLAND.  After falling down a rabbit hole, Alice finds herself in a world of nonsensical and amusing characters.

 

Cooper, S              OVER SEA UNDER STONE.  Three children find an ancient manuscript which sends them on a dangerous quest for a grail that reveals the true story of King Arthur.

 

Coville, B               INTO THE LAND OF THE UNICORNS.  Cara finds herself in the land of Luster, where she befriends a unicorn named Lightfoot and searches for Queen Arabella Skydancer.

 

Coville, B               JENNIFER MURDLEY’S TOAD.  After purchasing a toad for a school project, Jennifer discovers it can talk and finds herself on a series of adventures.

 

Eager, E                 HALF MAGIC.  Four children find themselves enjoying a series of adventures after discovering an ancient coin and the secret to its magic.

 

Juster, N.               THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH.  Bored Milo finds himself in a land where words and numbers are of utmost importance, and must rescue the princesses Rhyme and Reason.

 

Levine, G.              ELLA ENCHANTED. Ella struggles against a curse that has her obeying any order in this retelling of Cinderella.

 

00Levy R.              ESCAPE FROM EXILE.  Daniel is transported to the land of Lithia where he becomes a key figure in the civil war there due to his ability to mentally communicate with their native animals.

 

Lewis, C. S.           THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.  Lucy steps through the wardrobe and leads her brothers and sister to an adventure in a land ruled by the cruel White Witch.

 

Lofting, H.              VOYAGES OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE.  The Newbery Award-winning story of a man who can talk to the animals.

 

McGraw, E.           MOORCHILD.  A Changeling discovers her true identity and attempts to find the human child whose place she has been given.

 

Nesbit, E.               THE ENCHANTED CASTLE. Four English children find a wonderful world of magic through an enchanted wishing ring.

 

Nodelman, P.         SAME PLACE BUT DIFFERENT.  John Nesbit must enter the world of the Strangers to rescue his baby sister whom fairies have replaced with a Changeling.

 

Norton, M.             THE BORROWERS.  Miniature people who live in an old country house are forced to move from their home under the clock.

 

Rubinstein, G.         UNDER THE CAT’S EYE. Jai and his friends at boarding school join forces with shape-shifters in their attempt to defeat the headmaster who steals his students’ souls.

 

Tolkien, J. R.          THE HOBBIT.  Bilbo Baggins lives a comfortable hobbit life until the wandering wizard Gandalf chooses him to participate in an adventure from which he may never return.

 

Waugh, S.              THE MENNYMS.  A family of life-size dolls try to live a human existence but fear being found out when the owner of the house they live in decides to come for a visit.

 

Winthrop, E.           CASTLE IN THE ATTIC.  William is sure the castle he has just received is magic, and soon he finds himself on a fantastic quest to another land and another time, doing battle with a fiery dragon and an evil wizard.

 

Yolen, J.                 PASSAGER.  A foundling rediscovers his identity through the help of the falconer who adopts him.  First in a trilogy.
