IT’S FINISHED!
E. ASHMAN NOW OPEN
The construction work that had closed portions of E. Ashman St. between Swede Ave. and Waldo Ave. is now complete and the roadway has been reopened.
With that the City of Midland Engineering Department announces that is has now completed all the street portions of the 2001 sanitary sewer improvement projects.
In February 2000, voters approved a plan to improve
Midland’s sanitary sewer system. Work
on those improvements began in April.
During the course of this construction season, the City of Midland
Engineering Department oversaw six separate projects that resulted in more than
$14.5 million worth of sanitary sewer improvements, this is nearly three times
the amount of work completed in a normal construction year.
“We are thrilled that all our projects went so smoothly and we are very
grateful to the motorists and businesses that were so patient and cooperative
during this construction season,” said City Engineer Brian McManus adding that
courteous driving helped complete a construction season with no loss-time
injuries.
The department’s 2001 construction goal was to complete all the sanitary sewer work that would involve street disruptions. Over the winter months, work will be completed on pump station upgrades and related mechanical work. The engineering department reports that it is on schedule with its commitment to have the new sewer improvements operational in Spring 2002.
