Next time you
think about running a red light, think again.
By then it’ll be green.
Violations of red lights, flashing red lights, and no turn on red will be the focus of the November 18 – December 7 Safe Driving campaign as the Midland Police Department’s Traffic Safety Team continues its effort to reduce traffic crashes within the community.
As the program begins, motorists are asked to think about
the following:
· A yellow light means prepare to stop.
·
Drive defensively and be on the lookout for
red-light runners. Even if you have the
green light, make sure all other traffic has come to a complete stop before
proceeding through the intersection.
·
What
will running a red light save you?
Forty-seven seconds.
· What will running a red light cost you?
Ø Injury or death to yourself or someone else.
Ø Numerous hours in time, from the police officer writing up a traffic violation to the time it takes to arrange for vehicle repairs if you experience an accident.
Ø
Hundreds of dollars in car repairs if running a
red light results in even a minor collision.
