The Midland Police Department, in conjunction with law enforcement agencies across the country, will help keep Midland residents safe by participating in the national “Click It or Ticket” safety belt campaign over the Memorial Day weekend.
The campaign is designed to encourage drivers and passengers to use their seat belts, and to properly restrain children under the age of four. In an effort to encourage the use of safety belts, the police department will adopt a zero tolerance approach when encountering adults and children who are not properly restrained when traveling this holiday. Motorists in violation of the law will receive a traffic ticket.
The Midland Police Department encourages motorists to know the law:
· If front seat passengers are not wearing seatbelts, police can now stop the vehicle and ticket the driver.
· All children under the age of four must be in a child safety belt when riding in either the front seat or back seat of a vehicle.
