SPEED AND STEREOS

SAFE DRIVING CAMPAIGN FOR JULY

The Midland Police Department Traffic Safety Team will focus on speeding in residential neighborhoods and loud car stereos during the remainder of July as part of its monthly Safe Driving campaign.

Speeding is a problem in many communities and it is a problem of great concern to Midland residents.  Loud stereos are also a safety concern as well as a nuisance.  The combination of the loud music and speed can be deadly.

Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway and extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle.   Speeding through neighborhoods endangers everyone and affects how we use our neighborhoods.

Loud car stereos are another common complaint in neighborhoods.  In addition to bothering the neighbors, it also increases your risk of a car accident by distracting motorists and making it more difficult to hear emergency sirens.

Please remember that your driving habits have the single greatest effect in keeping our streets and families safe.  Make a conscious effort to slow down, concentrate on your driving and keep our neighborhoods and streets safe.
