COLOMBO NAMED
MIDLAND’S CITY ASSESSOR
Thomas M. Colombo will begin his position as the City of Midland’s
new city assessor on Monday, January 12, 2004. City Manager Karl Tomion, in appointing Colombo,
also announced that the position is being changed to part-time and that the
position of personal property auditor is being upgraded to deputy
assessor. Mr. Colombo will be working
approximately 20 hours per week. The
City’s two full-time deputy assessors will report to Colombo.
Colombo received
a certificate in assessment administration from Oakland
Community College and is certified
by the Michigan State Assessors Board as a Level IV assessor. He has 24 years of experience as the city
assessor for the City of Roseville, Michigan, where he also served for 3 years
as city manager and personnel director before retiring in 1999. Most recently, Colombo
has been the City of Midland’s
contract assessor and an administrator with the Wayne
County equalization department.
“In Tom Colombo, the City is obtaining the services of an
experienced and highly-respected professional in the field of property tax
assessment in Michigan,” said the
City’s Director of Fiscal Services Bob Fisher, who oversees the assessing
department. “Having already worked with
us on a contract basis, Tom is familiar with the City and with the assessing
department staff. We are looking forward
to having him as a member of our management team.”
In a related staffing move in the city assessor’s office,
Personal Property Auditor Reid Duford has been promoted to deputy city
assessor. Duford has been a City
employee since 1986, and has been a member of the assessing department staff
since 1999. He is a Level III
state-certified assessor and a certified personal property examiner.
