COLOMBO NAMED
MIDLAND’S CITY ASSESSOR

Thomas M. Colombo will begin his position as the City of Midland’s new city assessor on Monday, January 12, 2004.  City Manager Karl Tomion, in appointing Colombo, also announced that the position is being changed to part-time and that the position of personal property auditor is being upgraded to deputy assessor.  Mr. Colombo will be working approximately 20 hours per week.  The City’s two full-time deputy assessors will report to Colombo.

Colombo received a certificate in assessment administration from Oakland Community College and is certified by the Michigan State Assessors Board as a Level IV assessor.  He has 24 years of experience as the city assessor for the City of Roseville, Michigan, where he also served for 3 years as city manager and personnel director before retiring in 1999.  Most recently, Colombo has been the City of Midland’s contract assessor and an administrator with the Wayne County equalization department.

“In Tom Colombo, the City is obtaining the services of an experienced and highly-respected professional in the field of property tax assessment in Michigan,” said the City’s Director of Fiscal Services Bob Fisher, who oversees the assessing department.  “Having already worked with us on a contract basis, Tom is familiar with the City and with the assessing department staff.  We are looking forward to having him as a member of our management team.”

In a related staffing move in the city assessor’s office, Personal Property Auditor Reid Duford has been promoted to deputy city assessor.  Duford has been a City employee since 1986, and has been a member of the assessing department staff since 1999.  He is a Level III state-certified assessor and a certified personal property examiner.
