STUDENTS CHOSEN FOR

SISTER CITY STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Three Midland students will travel to Handa, Japan in July as part of the City of Midland annual student exchange with its sister city.

Aubrey McCullen, a junior at Midland High and Sarah Reel and Sean Smith, both sophomores at Dow High were chosen from among fifteen candidates who applied for the exchange.   The students were selected based on their interest in the Japanese culture and demonstration of leadership and maturity.

Nearly 20 Midland students have participated in the Handa-Midland Sister City Student Exchange since the program began in 1982.  The exchange was established to provide an opportunity for the youth of Handa and Midland to learn about one another’s culture.

Traditionally, Midland students travel to Handa in the odd numbered years, and in the even numbered years, Handa students are hosted by Midland residents.

Round trip airfare and support for this exchange has been generously provided by The Dow Chemical Company, Cabot Corporation, Chemical Financial Corporation, MidMichigan Health, Chemical Bank, Wolverine Bank, Comerica Bank and the Midland Rotary Club.  The program is administered by the City of Midland and the Handa-Midland Sister City Committee.
