REID DUFORD NAMED MIDLAND’S CITY ASSESSOR

The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Reid A. Duford has been named city assessor, effective Monday, July 12.

Duford is an 18-year City employee who joined the Assessing Department in 1999 as a residential appraiser, was promoted to personal property auditor in 2002 and to deputy assessor in January 2004. He was the City’s first-ever personal property auditor, and was instrumental in designing and implementing a highly effective personal property audit function.

Duford, who started with the City as a garage serviceman and is a former president of the City’s Steelworker bargaining unit, was appointed by City Manager Karl Tomion. “I am especially happy to be announcing Reid’s appointment, not only because he is well qualified for the position, but because it is a pleasure to see an employee take such full advantage of all the training and educational opportunities the City offers to advance his career,” said Tomion.

“Reid has excellent technical and organizational skills, and is a highly motivated individual,” said the City’s Director of Fiscal Services Bob Fisher, who oversees the Assessing Department. “Having already worked in the department for five years, Reid is familiar with the City, its processes and with the Assessing Department staff. We are looking forward to having him as a senior member of our management team.”

Duford is a native of the Midland area, and graduated from H.H. Dow High School in 1981. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting at Davenport University and is scheduled to graduate in May 2005.

Duford is a Level III state-certified assessor and a certified personal property examiner.  He has also completed many of the requirements for Level IV certification, and will continue to work toward that goal as he begins his new position as city assessor.
