MIDLAND POLICE PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAM

TO REWARD CHILDREN FOR GOOD BIKE SAFETY HABITS

The Midland Police Department is taking part in a new Field Neurosciences Institute program that rewards children for helping to prevent traumatic injuries.

The “Caught Being Safe” program utilizes law enforcement officials, teachers and others to catch and reward young people for practicing good safety habits through the use of safety helmets. Midland police officers who see children wearing their bike helmets will stop them and give them a reflective sticker for their helmet and a voucher for a free ice cream cone from McDonald’s.

This statewide program has been initiated by Field Neurosciences Institute, which is affiliated with Saint Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw. The institute engages in research projects to prevent, early diagnose, care for and cure neurological diseases, disorders and injuries.
