DARYL POPRAVE NAMED MIDLAND’S CITY
PLANNER
The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Daryl Poprave has been
named city planner, effective Monday, October 11.
Poprave brings to the City
nine years of experience in planning and community development. For the past
two years, he has served as community development director for the City of St.
Joseph, Michigan. Among his responsibilities in that position, Poprave has been
the City’s liaison on economic development activities and has represented the
City on Brownfield redevelopment projects in St. Joseph. Prior to his tenure in St. Joseph, Poprave worked from 1995 to 2002 for the City of Big Rapids to develop land use policies and develop and enforce
the City’s zoning ordinance.
“Daryl has a wealth of land
use and zoning knowledge that will benefit the community,” said Assistant City Manager Jon Lynch, who directs the City of Midland Planning and Community Development Department. “We look
forward to having him as a member of our management team.”
As Midland’s city planner, Poprave will manage flood plain
information and land use policy research and have liaison responsibilities to
the Zoning Board of Appeals and the West Main Street Historic District
Commission.
Poprave was selected for the
position by two separate interview panels consisting of City staff, community
leaders and representatives from local building and engineering organizations.
Poprave holds a bachelor’s
degree in political science from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in public administration from Western Michigan University. In addition, he is a Building Officials and Code
Administrators International (BOCA)-certified property maintenance code
inspector.
