DARYL POPRAVE NAMED MIDLAND’S CITY PLANNER

The City of Midland is pleased to announce that Daryl Poprave has been named city planner, effective Monday, October 11.

Poprave brings to the City nine years of experience in planning and community development. For the past two years, he has served as community development director for the City of St. Joseph, Michigan. Among his responsibilities in that position, Poprave has been the City’s liaison on economic development activities and has represented the City on Brownfield redevelopment projects in St. Joseph. Prior to his tenure in St. Joseph, Poprave worked from 1995 to 2002 for the City of Big Rapids to develop land use policies and develop and enforce the City’s zoning ordinance.

“Daryl has a wealth of land use and zoning knowledge that will benefit the community,” said Assistant City Manager Jon Lynch, who directs the City of Midland Planning and Community Development Department. “We look forward to having him as a member of our management team.”

As Midland’s city planner, Poprave will manage flood plain information and land use policy research and have liaison responsibilities to the Zoning Board of Appeals and the West Main Street Historic District Commission.

Poprave was selected for the position by two separate interview panels consisting of City staff, community leaders and representatives from local building and engineering organizations.

Poprave holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in public administration from Western Michigan University. In addition, he is a Building Officials and Code Administrators International (BOCA)-certified property maintenance code inspector.
