NOISE FROM VEHICLES AND SEATBELT USAGE THE TARGET OF TWO PRONGED MIDLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT TRAFFIC SAFETY TEAM CAMPAIGN

Loud noise from vehicles and safety belt usage are the subjects of a two pronged Midland Police Department traffic campaign that begins on Monday, May 24. Organized by the department's Traffic Safety Team, the two campaigns will run simultaneously until June 6.

Noise Disturbances from Vehicles Prohibited in Midland

The first part of the two-week campaign will focus on loud noises coming from vehicles. Police officers will issue tickets for violations to the Michigan Uniform Traffic Code and a City of Midland ordinance on unnecessary noises from vehicles.

Although this is an issue that Midland Police handle daily, this extra effort is being put forth to help curb loud and unnecessary noise from vehicles traveling Midland roadways during warmer weather.

Click It Or Ticket – Buckle Up or Pay Up

The Click It Or Ticket – Buckle Up or Pay Up statewide traffic safety campaign is the second part of the upcoming traffic safety initiative.

Midland police officers will work in conjunction with the Midland Sheriff's Office and the Michigan State Police to enforce seatbelt laws in specific enforcement zones in the city and throughout Midland County. This is an all-out effort to encourage use of the single-most effective piece of equipment for preventing injuries and death during traffic crashes.

Safety belt usage in Michigan had reached a record high in 2003 of nearly 85 percent. In November 2003, safety belt compliance in Midland was at 81.9 percent.

Seatbelt enforcement campaigns contribute to the Midland Police Department’s aim of increasing seatbelt usage to at least 90 percent. This would help to reduce an estimated 650 serious injuries across the state annually and could result in 50 fewer fatalities due to traffic accidents throughout Michigan each year.
