ASHMAN STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

CONTINUES BETWEEN NELSON AND CARPENTER STREETS

With the new school year set to start soon for Midland schools, the City of Midland would like to remind motorists that Ashman Street between Nelson and Carpenter streets is closed for street reconstruction and related water main work activities.

The current detour route utilizes Nelson Street, Jefferson Avenue, Haley Street and Carpenter Street. A map of this detour is on the Construction Updates web page on the City’s website (www.midland-mi.org).

To accommodate increased school traffic in the area, motorists will be permitted to cross Ashman Street at both Nelson and Carpenter streets. Motorists traveling on other cross streets within the construction area will also be able to cross Ashman Street, except when work operations are occurring at cross street intersections. In those cases, traffic will be diverted to parallel streets. Related cross street closures will be posted.

Additional, temporary road closures or delays will occur during the final stages of this project, which is expected to be complete in approximately six weeks. Information about those closures will be released as necessary.

With the 2005 construction season now underway, motorists are encouraged to sign up for weekly and last-minute construction updates by subscribing to City Hall News on the City of Midland website at www.midland-mi.org under the “What’s New/Updates” heading.
