ASHMAN STREET STREETSCAPE PROJECT
BEGINS MONDAY, APRIL 18
A
project to enhance the appearance of a portion of Ashman
Street, along with some water main
replacements and sanitary sewer repairs, will begin Monday, April 18.
The project
involves extensive streetscape enhancements along Ashman Street from Buttles to
Ann streets in downtown Midland plus the
installation of a water main and sanitary sewer repairs on Ashman from Buttles
to Larkin streets. One lane of Ashman Street will be closed from
Buttles to Ann streets during the majority of the project, which is expected to
be completed in mid-July, weather permitting.
Ashman
Street will be closed at various stages
of the project to accommodate new crosswalks, pavement and other construction
activities. Cross streets will experience intermittent lane closures. Related
detours will be posted. Project updates will be available on the City’s website
at www.midland-mi.org.
Look under the What’s New/Updates heading for a link
to the construction updates web page.
The
streetscape project is being coordinated through the Downtown Development
Authority to beautify and better identify one of the main entrances to Midland’s downtown area. Some crosswalks
and sidewalks will be replaced, and planting beds with plants and trees plus hanging
flower baskets will add to the area’s charm. Stepped planter boxes with a
shooting water feature will also be installed on Ashman Street between Main and Ann streets.
With the 2005 construction season now underway, motorists
are encouraged to sign up for weekly and last-minute construction updates by
subscribing to City Hall News on the City of Midland
website at www.midland-mi.org under the “What’s
New/Updates” heading. Motorists may also check the construction updates page on
