NEW JACK BARSTOW AIRPORT TERMINAL
DEDICATION PLANNED FOR AUGUST 22
A recent change to the Jack Barstow Municipal Airport is about to take flight, and Midland citizens are invited to witness its official
take-off.
The City of Midland will host a dedication ceremony celebrating the newly completed
terminal building at the Jack Barstow Municipal Airport on Monday, August 22. The 2 p.m. ceremony will be followed by an open house
and a demonstration by the U.S. Parachutist Association. Local pilots’ planes
will also be on display at the general aviation airport.
The 2,100-square-foot terminal building, which replaced a 54-year-old
terminal, was built by Gerace Construction Company,
Inc. with approximately $500,000 in funds from local foundations, local pilot
groups, the City and many community supporters. The City’s portion of the
funding was about $50,000 from the proceeds of a hangar sale at the airport.
The exterior of the new terminal features a metal roof with precast concrete panels in a design that mirrors the
architectural style of celebrated Midland architect Alden B. Dow. A vaulted ceiling
and skylight are highlights of the building’s new design, and the terminal also
features a pilot rest area, lobby, meeting room, attendant’s office and weather
room.
Jack Barstow Municipal Airport is located in the northwest area of Midland adjacent to the Midland County Fairgrounds
and the City Forest. The airfield encompasses 540 acres and provides
aircraft and flight opportunities for community pilots and many transient aircraft.
The airport has two runways to accommodate various wind conditions in flight
and various sizes of small aircraft.
