STUDENTS CHOSEN FOR

SISTER CITY STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Three Midland students will travel to Handa, Japan in July as part of the City of Midland annual student exchange with its sister city.

Anastasia Ault, a junior at the Midland Academy of Advanced and Creative Studies, Kyle Hocquard, a senior at H. H. Dow High School, and Carolyn Crary, a junior at H. H. Dow High School, were chosen from among 36 students who applied for the exchange. The students were selected based on their interest in the Japanese culture and demonstration of leadership and maturity. The students will stay with host families for three weeks, from July 21 to August 11.

More than 20 Midland students have participated in the Handa-Midland Sister City Student Exchange since the program began in 1982. The exchange was established to provide an opportunity for the youth of Handa and Midland to learn about one another’s culture.

Traditionally, Midland students travel to Handa in the odd numbered years, and in the even numbered years, Handa students are hosted by Midland residents.

Round trip airfare and support for this exchange has been generously provided by The Dow Chemical Company, Chemical Financial Corporation, MidMichigan Health, the Midland Kiwanis Club, Midland Rotary Club, Wolverine Bank and Comerica Bank. The program is administered by the City of Midland and the Handa-Midland Sister City Committee.
