CITY OF MIDLAND OFFERS

CITIZENS ACADEMY IN JANUARY

The City of Midland is pleased to announce the first-ever Midland Citizens Academy – a free, eight-week course designed to give citizens an up-close and personal look at how city government functions and helps to shape our community.

Through eight two-hour sessions, participants will receive a first-hand look and in-depth understanding of how local government functions in the city of Midland.  Through presentations and facility tours, each session will demonstrate the role and responsibility of the various City departments and the services they provide to the community.  Participants will gain a better understanding of how Midland City government helps maintain the quality of life that Midland residents enjoy.

Applications are being accepted for the 2007 Midland Citizens Academy, which will begin on January 31, 2007. With the exception of one Thursday evening session on March 22, all sessions will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, January 31. Citizens Academy sessions will be held at various municipal facilities depending on the topic.

The Citizens Academy is limited to 20 participants. City residency is not required; however, if the class is filled, first preference will be given to those living inside the city of Midland.

Registration forms may be obtained from any City of Midland office, via an online form at www.midland-mi.org, or by calling the City Manager’s office at 989-837-3301.  The application deadline is Friday, January 19.
