CITY OF MIDLAND ANNOUNCES CONSTRUCTION

PROJECTS PLANNED FOR REMAINDER OF 2006

The City of Midland Engineering Department is continuing with a busy construction season, with various projects planned for roadways in Midland during the fall season.

A map showing the locations of the projects listed below, plus other related project information, can be found on the Construction Updates web page on the City’s website (www.midland-mi.org), under the “What’s New/Updates” heading.

Some major projects that could affect citizens’ regular and school travel routes are in the beginning stages. Projects in the central and eastern part of the city include:

  • A Swede Avenue water main installation and road reconstruction project from Wheeler Street to Wackerly Street;
  • Washington Street reconstruction from Sugnet Street to Wheeler Street;
  • Sugnet Street reconstruction from N. Saginaw Road to Jefferson Avenue; and
  • Eastlawn Drive reconstruction from Abbott Road to Waldo Avenue.

Restricted traffic movements will be allowed within the work zone during the early stages of the above projects.  However, periodic street closures will occur during critical phases of construction, and traffic will be detoured accordingly.

These projects are estimated to be completed by late October.

Other projects on the docket include:

  • Street reconstruction near the new baseball stadium on the following roadways:
    • Buttles Street from US-10 BR to vacated Lyon Road;
    • Third Street from Indian to Pine streets;
    • Mill and Haley streets between Indian and Buttles streets; and
    • a new stadium exit drive at Lyon Road.

These projects are likely to have minimal impact on motorists traveling in these areas.

Estimated completion of these projects is mid-October.

  • A non-motorized path is being constructed just north of U.S. 10 from Jefferson Avenue to the Midland Cinemas and along the south side of Cinema Drive to the Midland Mall.

This project is likely to have minimal impact on motorists traveling in the above areas.

Walkers and bicyclists should be able to begin using the path in late September.

  • The Salzburg Road water main project from S. Saginaw Road to 900 feet east is in the final stages of construction and should be completed by early September. Traffic control currently in place will continue until the project is complete.
