GENEALOGY AND LOCAL HISTORY PROGRAM

SET FOR OCTOBER 28 AT LIBRARY

On Saturday, October 28, visit the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library to learn a bit more about finding your ancestors during a Genealogy and Local History Open House and special presentation on using DNA to research your history.

Volunteers and library staff will be available to assist researchers in the Genealogy and Local History Room during the Open House, set for 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. From 1 – 3 p.m. in the Library Auditorium, genealogist Roberta Estes will explain how to use DNA as a key to solving your genealogical puzzles.

Estes, a professional scientist in information technology, has been an amateur genealogist since 1978. She was an early advocate of using DNA for genealogy, and specializes in southern colonial records, focused primarily in Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina.

Estes manages nine surname projects, including the large regional Cumberland Gap project with several hundred participants. She also does a significant amount of both genealogical and DNA research pertaining to genealogy and individual test results.

Estes appears thanks to the cooperative efforts of the Library and the Midland Genealogical Society.
