2007-08
BATTLE OF THE
BOOKS
KICKOFF
SET FOR NOVEMBER 10
November 2, 2007 – The battle is about to heat up. Battle
of the Books, that is.
The 2007-08 Battle of the Books Kickoff
will be held at the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library
on Saturday, November 10. The kickoff
will include the unveiling of the book list for the coming Battle season, and talks by Bruce Hale, author
of The Chameleon Wore Chartreuse and The Possum Always Rings Twice.
Battle of the Books is a
program designed to encourage and reward fourth and fifth grade readers. Grace A. Dow librarians choose 20 books that
encompass a variety of interests and introduce students to a wide range of
literature. During Battle season, students discuss the books
with their teammates, team manager and other adults, so that reading becomes a
shared activity. While reaping the
rewards of reading and team building, the students also have fun.
During
the kickoff event on November 10, Hale will speak at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Library
Auditorium. His books will be available
for purchase and signing after each of the two programs. Also available for purchase will be the other
books on the Battle
list. Attendees of the kickoff event may
also check out Battle
books after each program. Battle books will be
available for general checkout after 3
p.m. on November 10. Books
and book lists will not be available between programs.
