TIME TO REMOVE DECORATIONS
FROM MIDLAND
CEMETERY
September 28, 2007 – In preparation for the fall and
winter months, families maintaining plots at the Midland Cemetery should remove
annual flowers, artificial decorations and their receptacles from cemetery
plots by October 1. Beginning October 8,
cemetery personnel start their fall cleanup of the cemetery. Items remaining on plots are collected and
discarded.
Annual
flowers, artificial decorations and their receptacles may remain in the cemetery
from May 1 to October 1. Due to leaf
blowing, only suspended plants and elevated arrangements are allowed from
October 2 through Thanksgiving. Winter
decorations such as evergreen blankets or wreaths may be applied beginning
Thanksgiving Day and remain on gravesites through April 1.
In an effort to maintain the appearance and upkeep of the Midland Cemetery, the Midland City Council in mid-2007 adopted cemetery rules,
which outline specific rules and regulations regarding maintenance, allowable
items, and timeframes for placing and removing certain objects within the
cemetery. A complete copy of the Midland
Cemetery Rules is available, upon request, at the Cemetery Office on the
grounds of the cemetery, or at the City Clerk’s Office, located at Midland City Hall. The rules can also be located on the City’s
website, at www.midland-mi.org.
A
violation of the cemetery rules is a civil infraction, which can result in a
$50 fine for the first offense, $250 for the second offense, or $500 for the
third and any subsequent violations.
