CITY OF MIDLAND ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

FOR SECOND ANNUAL CITIZENS ACADEMY

November 30, 2007 – The City of Midland is pleased to announce the second annual Midland Citizens Academy – a free, nine-week course designed to give citizens an up-close and personal look at how city government functions and helps to shape our community.

Through nine two-hour sessions, participants will receive a first-hand look and in-depth understanding of how local government functions in the city of Midland.  Through presentations and facility tours, each session will demonstrate the role and responsibility of the various City departments and the services they provide to the community.  Participants will also gain a better understanding of the role Midland city government plays in the quality of life that Midlanders enjoy.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2008 Midland Citizens Academy, which will begin on January 30, 2008.  Academy sessions will take place each consecutive Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. from January 30 to March 26.  Citizens Academy sessions will be held at various municipal facilities depending on the topic.

The Citizens Academy is limited to 25 participants.  Midland residency is not required; however, if there are more applicants than available spaces, first preference will be given to those living inside the city.

Registration forms may be filled out online at www.midland-mi.org.  They are also available in hard copy form at the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library Reference Desk or at the Information Center in Midland City Hall.

The application deadline is Friday, January 11.
