GRACE A. DOW MEMORIAL LIBRARY RECEIVES

AWARD FROM MICHIGAN HUMANITIES COUNCIL

 

November 21, 2007 – On Monday, November 19, Grace A. Dow Memorial Library and the Midland County Historical Society received special recognition from the Michigan Humanities Council for their outstanding programming in support of The Great Michigan Read program. Each organization was presented with specially framed publicity posters created for the statewide reading program that celebrates Ernest Hemingway’s literature and encourages reading.

 

Since September, local programs have included a Hemingway film and discussion program; a talk featuring Mike Federspiel, president of the Michigan Hemingway Society; a presentation by Gloria Whelan, author of The Pathless Woods: Ernest Hemingway’s Sixteenth Summer in Northern Michigan; a movie poster exhibit; a local Hemingway memorabilia exhibit; and The Nick Adams Stories book discussions.
